Orthodontic Appliance Care

A person wearing an orthodontic appliance is more susceptible to cavities, therefore, diligent brushing and flossing is essential. Oral health care frequency needs to increase when an orthodontic appliance is worn.

Always brush the appliance when you brush your teeth. Brush the appliance by placing toothpaste on your brush and brush the appliance while holding it in your hand. If possible, brush the appliance and your teeth after every meal. At the very least, rinse the appliance and your teeth as soon as possible after meals.

The appliance can be disinfected daily by soaking it in an antibacterial mouth rinse for half an hour.

A weekly fluoride rinse may also be recommended and can be purchased at most pharmacies.
